Is this a foreign investor or what???
The 1996 elections were a hard-fought battle of ideas. Under the rules of the current system, BOTH parties raised money to advocate their positions. In fact, GOP party committees raised over $200 million more than Democrats. The GOP raised $553 million -- 60% more than the Democrats' $332 million.
And BOTH parties offered "perks" to their supporters. There are many examples of Republicans soliciting donors with promises ranging from "one-on-one interaction with the Republican Party's top decision makers" to "exclusive business missions abroad."
And BOTH parties took foreign campaign contributions. But unlike the Democrats, the GOP had a secret plan to launder millions in foreign money through its National Policy Forum. And, unlike Democrats, Republicans have not yet returned any of the illegal foreign loan money from a Hong Kong businessman, have not revealed the other donors to NPF and have not conducted any review of their own contributions.
BUT Republicans went one step further than Democrats -- allowing lobbyists for big donors to write legislation. GOP Rep. Tom DeLay admitted he let a group of 350 big donors -- called "Project Relief" -- to write legislation because "they have the expertise." In addition, the GOP let other lobbyists write legislation regarding clean air, worker protection and assault weapons.
(editors note: The Republicans have stated that the lobbyists have the "expertise" to write legislation. Does that mean that our legislators do not? If it does, then who will read the written legislation to see if it is in the best interests of the American people. Obviously, if they are unable to write it................... . We are not talking anymore about politics, graft and corruption, what we are talking about now is TREASON!)
Republicans continue to put the special interests ahead of the public interest. The GOP slashes taxes on the well-off, but shortchanges families with children; they limit college opportunities for students; and they delayed billions of dollars in relief to victims of natural disasters.
